HubSpot AI Credits Pricing for Small Business (2026): Spend Caps, Seat Swaps, and Agent Costs

HubSpot Credits cost $0.010 each, but safe budgeting depends on account and feature caps, accepted-result tracking, seat-swap rules, and choosing Pay-as-You-Go versus capacity packs carefully.

Practical verdict: HubSpot Credits cost $0.010 each under its standard published US pricing. The important change is not just the price; it is the control layer. Accounts can use an overall monthly limit, feature-level limits, and—currently only for Buyer Intent—action-level limits. But HubSpot's default ceiling is not automatically your approved budget. After an account buys extra capacity packs, HubSpot says it automatically sets the account-level spend limit as high as 50% above total monthly credits. Feature and action limits are not on by default.

For a small business, the safest policy is simple: set your own account ceiling, cap each credit-consuming feature, and judge agents by accepted business results, not by the number of outputs HubSpot bills. A cap can stop further usage. It cannot make an irrelevant prospect, weak answer, or unnecessary workflow action useful.

Pricing and mechanics were checked against HubSpot's live product catalog and knowledge-base pages on October 28, 2026. This is vendor-document research, not hands-on product or billing testing. HubSpot can change rates, availability, beta charging, and regional packaging; verify the rate sheet and your checkout screen before committing.

How much do HubSpot AI Credits cost in 2026?

HubSpot's standard US catalog lists HubSpot Credits at $0.010 per credit. A 1,000-credit capacity pack is $10 per month. Pay-as-You-Go uses the same published per-credit rate and is invoiced in increments of 10 credits. Credits reset monthly and unused credits do not roll over.

That unit price is easy. The contract behaviour is where buyers get ambushed:

  • Capacity packs add 1,000 credits per month for the rest of the commitment term. HubSpot says reductions or cancellations generally wait until renewal.
  • Pay-as-You-Go charges only the credits used above the monthly limit and returns the account to its original limit at reset.
  • Auto-upgrade moves the subscription to a larger capacity level for the rest of the commitment term.
  • Pay-as-You-Go is not a free-floating switch for included credits alone. HubSpot's documentation says an account must first buy additional credit capacity before overages can be enabled.
  • If an account has only included credits and buys no capacity pack, credit-based features pause when those included credits run out.

HubSpot says Pay-as-You-Go became the default for additional-credit purchases made on or after September 16, 2026; earlier purchases defaulted to auto-upgrade. Existing customers should check the actual Overage setting in Account & Billing rather than assume their account followed the newer default.

How many credits are included with each HubSpot plan?

Included credits depend on the product family and highest subscription tier. They are not additive across multiple HubSpot products.

Standard plan familyStarterProfessionalEnterprise
Smart CRM, Marketing Hub, Sales Hub, Service Hub, Content Hub, or Revenue Hub5003,0005,000
Data Hub or Customer Platform bundle5005,00010,000

If a business has Marketing Hub Professional and Sales Hub Enterprise, it receives the highest applicable Enterprise allowance—not the sum of both allowances. The monthly reset date follows the subscription usage period.

There is a separate flexible seats-and-credits pricing program with different packaging. HubSpot's current supplement lists 5,000 / 10,000 / 15,000 included credits for Starter / Professional / Enterprise and uses euro-denominated pricing. It also has GTM and Ops seat types instead of the standard Core, Sales, Service, and Revenue seat model. Do not paste those allowances into a standard US-plan budget. Treat your contract, region, and billing portal as the controlling source.

What does each agent or action cost?

HubSpot's standard rate sheet currently lists these common billing units:

FeatureBilled actionCreditsPublished value
Customer AgentOne resolved text conversation50$0.50
Prospecting AgentRecommend outreach for one lead100$1.00
Data AgentOne prompt response for one record10$0.10
AI workflow actionOne execution10$0.10
Content Agent (beta)One generated content item1,000$10.00

These are billing units, not proof of value. Customer Agent is closest to outcome pricing because HubSpot charges for a defined resolution rather than every message. A text conversation counts as resolved when the agent provides a sourced answer or action and there is no qualifying visitor-requested human handoff within HubSpot's 72-hour evaluation window. The same email thread can create another resolution later if it reopens after that window.

Prospecting Agent is different. The published unit is an outreach recommendation for one lead, not an accepted email, reply, meeting, opportunity, or sale. Calling that a business outcome would be generous to the point of comedy. Track how many recommendations your team accepts and uses.

Customer Agent currently requires a Professional or Enterprise subscription. Prospecting Agent is documented for Starter, Professional, and Enterprise across several Hubs, with Smart CRM access documented for Professional and Enterprise. Paid-seat and permission requirements still apply; Free and View-only users cannot use HubSpot Credits.

How do HubSpot spend caps actually work?

The account, feature, and action controls form a hierarchy, but only the account cap can stop all credit usage.

  1. Account-level limit: the total monthly ceiling across credit-consuming HubSpot tools. After extra capacity packs are purchased, HubSpot automatically sets this limit up to 50% above total monthly credits. It can be edited.
  2. Feature-level limit: a monthly maximum for one tool, such as Customer Agent or Prospecting Agent. It does not reserve credits for that tool. Once reached, that tool is blocked until reset or the limit increases.
  3. Action-level limit: a sub-limit inside a feature. As of this verification, HubSpot documents action-level limits only for Buyer Intent actions.

Feature caps cannot exceed the account cap, and Buyer Intent action caps cannot exceed the feature cap. HubSpot's documentation also says feature and action limits are not turned on by default. That matters because “controls are available” is not the same as “your finance policy is configured.”

If an account with 8,000 total monthly credits receives HubSpot's default 12,000-credit ceiling, the account can incur up to 4,000 credits—$40 at the published rate—above that monthly amount before features pause. Replace that system-generated ceiling with the amount the owner or finance lead actually approved.

HubSpot sends usage notifications at 75%, 85%, 90%, and the limit. When the account cap is reached, credit-consuming features pause until reset or an authorized admin raises the cap. Normal fallback routing and manual work must therefore be configured before the ceiling is hit.

Worked cost scenarios for a small business

Use two calculations:

credit cost = billed actions × credits per action × $0.010

cost per accepted result = total credit cost ÷ results your team accepted

The first number explains the invoice. The second helps decide whether the feature deserves more budget.

Worked HubSpot Credits scenarios for support, prospecting, enrichment, and mixed-agent use

Support: 80 resolved conversations

At 50 credits per resolution, 80 Customer Agent resolutions use 4,000 credits, with a published value of $40. If a support manager accepts 60 as genuinely complete and useful, the effective credit cost is $0.67 per accepted resolution. Labour, setup, content maintenance, and any other service charges are separate.

Prospecting: 40 outreach recommendations

At 100 credits per lead, 40 Prospecting Agent recommendations use 4,000 credits, worth $40. If sales accepts 10 recommendations for actual outreach, the credit cost is $4 per accepted recommendation. Track reply and meeting rates separately; HubSpot bills before those downstream outcomes exist.

Enrichment: separate free enrichment from credit-consuming AI

HubSpot's current documentation says standard contact and company data enrichment does not consume credits. Enriching 1,000 eligible records therefore uses zero HubSpot Credits, although subscription and data terms still apply.

Smart properties and Data Agent work are different. If a team runs 100 Data Agent prompts at 10 credits each, that uses 1,000 credits, worth $10. If 70 outputs pass review, the credit cost is about $0.14 per accepted output. Do not budget ordinary enrichment using a Data Agent rate or describe all enrichment as free.

Mixed-agent month: 4,500 credits

Suppose a business records:

  • 40 Customer Agent resolutions: 2,000 credits
  • 20 Prospecting Agent recommendations: 2,000 credits
  • 50 Data Agent prompt responses: 500 credits

Total: 4,500 credits, or $45 at the published per-credit value. A standard Professional Hub with 3,000 included credits would need 1,500 extra credits. Pay-as-You-Go would price that extra usage at $15; capacity packs come in 1,000-credit units, so covering the same peak requires two packs at $20 per month for the remaining commitment term. A Professional Customer Platform or Data Hub plan with 5,000 included credits would cover the volume, but included credits still have an opportunity cost because another feature could consume them.

Can you swap unused HubSpot seats for credits?

Yes—eligible unassigned seats can be exchanged for HubSpot Credits, another available seat type, or a mix of both. Super Admin access is required.

HubSpot applies the monthly value of the surrendered seats as a budget. If the replacement seats cost more, the customer pays the difference. If the new seat selection uses less value, HubSpot converts the remainder to credits and rounds up to the nearest available credit pack. Credits received through a completed swap are available immediately.

The dangerous detail is reversibility: HubSpot says credits cannot be swapped back into seats. Before converting a seat, confirm that it is genuinely unneeded for the remaining term, document who approved the change, and compare the seat's operational value with the credit budget. A vacant seat is not automatically waste if the company expects to hire next month.

Accounts in the flexible seats-and-credits program use different GTM/Ops seat types and regional pricing. Verify the seat model shown in your portal before relying on examples from standard Core, Sales, Service, or Revenue seats.

Setup checklist for account, feature, and action limits

Use this sequence before turning on a production agent:

  • Confirm the account's pricing model, currency, highest tier, included credits, reset date, and contract end date.
  • In Account & Billing → HubSpot Credits, record whether overages are set to Pay-as-You-Go or auto-upgrade.
  • Set Maximum monthly credits to the buyer-approved ceiling—not the automatic ceiling.
  • Reserve a buffer for business-critical features, even though feature limits do not technically allocate credits.
  • Open Feature credit limits and cap Customer Agent, Prospecting Agent, Data Agent, workflows, and other active tools individually.
  • For Buyer Intent, set action-level limits below the feature cap where different signals have different value.
  • Confirm Billing contacts, Super Admins, and Billing Admins receive the 75% / 85% / 90% / limit alerts.
  • Configure fallback routing when Customer Agent or another tool pauses.
  • Name one budget owner and one operational owner for every active feature.
  • Test a small batch, record accepted-result criteria, and increase limits only after review.

What should the monthly review dashboard show?

A useful dashboard combines HubSpot usage data with business-quality data. The billing screen alone cannot tell you whether credits produced worthwhile work.

Pause, approval, and rollback rules

Small businesses should decide the rules before an agent is popular enough to spend freely.

Pause automatically or manually when: the account reaches 90% of its owner-approved cap; an agent's acceptance rate falls below the agreed threshold; the knowledge base or play is changing; unexplained usage jumps by 20% or more; or fallback routing fails.

Require approval when: enabling Pay-as-You-Go; switching from Pay-as-You-Go to auto-upgrade; increasing the account cap; raising a feature cap by more than 10%; activating a new recurring credit action; or converting an unassigned seat to credits.

Rollback by: lowering the relevant feature cap, pausing the feature in Manage usage by feature, turning off Customer Agent assignments, pausing Prospecting Agent credit usage, restoring manual routing, and reverting the workflow or play configuration. Changing a billing setting after usage has begun may not take effect until the next usage period, so feature-level pause controls are the faster operational brake.

Buy, limit, or skip: verdict by HubSpot tier

Starter: limit first; usually skip extra packs

Starter's standard 500-credit allowance is enough for roughly five Prospecting Agent recommendations at the current rate, but Customer Agent requires Professional or Enterprise. Use the allowance to test one narrow, reviewable workflow. Skip additional capacity unless the test produces repeatable accepted outcomes and the required feature is actually available on the account.

Professional: buy selectively and cap aggressively

Professional is the practical starting point for Customer Agent. Standard Hubs include 3,000 credits; Data Hub and Customer Platform include 5,000. Use a feature cap for each agent, keep Pay-as-You-Go behind approval, and compare a short overage with the commitment cost of capacity packs. This is the tier where usage can become operationally useful—and where a loose ceiling quietly becomes a recurring bill.

Enterprise: buy for proven volume, not prestige

Enterprise includes 5,000 credits on standard Hubs or 10,000 on Data Hub and Customer Platform. That supports more volume but does not improve the quality of an agent's source content, targeting, or review process. Enterprise buyers should require per-feature owners, outcome dashboards, fallback procedures, and quarterly rate-sheet verification before increasing capacity.

Final recommendation

HubSpot's published credit price is transparent; the budget is not self-governing. Use the account cap as the hard financial boundary, feature caps as operational circuit breakers, and accepted-result metrics as the buying test. Pay-as-You-Go is better for a short, uncertain peak. Capacity packs are better for stable demand you are willing to fund through the remaining term. Seat swaps make sense only when the seat is truly surplus and the irreversible conversion is documented.

Most small businesses should limit first, measure for one full reset cycle, then buy. If a team cannot define what an accepted result is, it is not ready to raise the cap.

FAQ

Are HubSpot Credits the same as a dollar budget?

No. HubSpot publishes a conversion of $0.010 per credit, but included credits, capacity packs, Pay-as-You-Go, contract terms, and regional programs affect what appears on the invoice. Set a separate buyer-approved ceiling.

Do HubSpot Credits roll over?

No. HubSpot says unused credits expire at the monthly reset and do not roll over.

What happens when the account reaches its credit cap?

Credit-consuming features pause until the reset or until an authorized admin raises the limit or buys more capacity. Configure manual or non-credit fallbacks in advance.

Can every HubSpot action have its own cap?

No. HubSpot currently documents action-level limits only for Buyer Intent. Other tools can use feature-level limits beneath the overall account limit.

Does HubSpot charge credits for normal data enrichment?

No, according to HubSpot's current enrichment documentation. Smart properties, Data Agent prompts, Intent, and other credit-based data features are separate and can consume credits.

Are seat-to-credit swaps reversible?

No. HubSpot says credits received from a seat swap cannot be converted back into seats.
